Supporting Local Growers: Why It Matters for Your Table
The story behind the fruit and vegetables on our shelves, and how buying from nearby farms affects freshness, flavour, and the local economy.
Read the storyWe work directly with farms and suppliers across the southern suburbs to keep our shelves stocked with what's ripe and ready. If you grow, bake, or make something worth sharing, we'd like to hear how we can work together.
A few clarifications so that growers, suppliers, and community groups know exactly where they stand when working with the shop. These notes cover the practical side of stocking, delivery, and how we describe what we sell.
Fruit and vegetables come from nearby markets and farms we know personally. Seasonal availability changes the range, so a specific item may not be on the shelf every week. We do not label anything as organic unless the grower holds a current certification we have seen.
Phone-order delivery covers the southern suburbs and runs on set weekday windows. Orders placed before midday usually go out the same afternoon, but we do not promise exact arrival times. Drivers call ahead when they are close.
Fruit bowls and sandwiches are made to order during school hours. We prepare them in small batches and use whatever is ripe that morning. If a requested item is not in stock, staff will suggest a swap before making the order.
When we say something arrived that morning, it means it came from the market or a farm on that day. We describe ripeness and condition honestly, and we encourage shoppers to ask before buying if they need produce for a specific day.
Supporting local growers means we buy at fair market rates and pay on agreed terms. We do not ask farms to carry our branding or commit to exclusive supply. A partnership with us is about steady orders, not marketing obligations.
Local groups that want to sell or promote goods through the shop should contact us with a written proposal. We review each request on its own merits and keep the shelves practical. Not every offer fits the store, and that is a deliberate choice.
For delivery orders, we only substitute an item when the customer agrees during the phone call. We never swap produce silently or leave a bag with something the shopper did not ask for. If we cannot reach you, the order goes out without that item and we adjust the bill accordingly.
A few things that pair well with the partnership page, whether you are curious about how we source stock or what a typical delivery day looks like.
